About Us
Diwakar Buddhist Academy, is an institution of education that combines an elementary school and a shedra. It is part of the Karma Kagyu school one of the big four lineages of Tibetan Buddhism. Diwakar Buddhist Academy was founded in the year 2002 by the His Holiness 14th Shamar Rinpoche.

The students of Diwakar Buddhist Academy
The elementary is located in Takdah, close to Darjeeling. It covers the first five years of education. The shedra lies on the outskirts of Kalimpong. The students have to study for ten years before graduating with an with an Acharya degree. The students follow the ancient curriculum of the Karma Kagyu lineage thus preserving the Tibetan tradtion. Over 250 students study at the academy, the youngest are less than six, the oldest more than thirty years old.

Examination Time – Each December the term ends with one week of examinations

Diwakar Buddhist Academy is under H.H. the 17th Karmapa’s and Jigme Rinpoche’s guidance. They are situated in the north of West Bengal close to the border to Sikkim. Together they offer all levels of education, from elementary school to college. They are supported and financed by the Shantipath Foundation.
